Ars in Aulis
“Ars in Aulis” is a musical journey that crosses the boundaries between classical music and oral tradition, between courts and villages, between refined art and popular spontaneity. The title, evoking the wisdom preserved in places of learning, alludes to a desire to rediscover the shared origins of Western musical language.
The program alternates madrigals, symphonies, and cantatas from the 17th and early 18th centuries — composed by masters such as Monteverdi, Caccini, A. Scarlatti, Porpora, Rossi, and Lasso — with villanellas, folk songs, and texts in Neapolitan dialect, passed down orally or collected from anonymous sources. This juxtaposition is not intended to create contrast, but to highlight the ongoing exchange between different worlds: the culture of the elite and the voice of the people, the written word and the songs sung in the streets.
