ÖSTERREICH Festival de Froville

Musica Gloria is a young and vibrant international baroque ensemble led by Beniamino Paganini and Nele Vertommen. In this program, they introduce us to Georg Österreich (1664–1735), a composer and singer from Northern Germany known for his distinctive style and sound. Österreich composed music for the oboe—an instrument that originated in France—well ahead of his German and Italian contemporaries, even giving it a prominent, soloistic role.

He also lovingly curated a remarkable collection of music—a treasure trove of works by himself and contemporaries such as Johann Rosenmüller and Dietrich Buxtehude. The collection features compositions by lesser-known figures like Johann Theile and Johann Philipp Förtsch, who wrote in the characteristic Northern German style.

This concert offers an anthology of works from Österreich’s collection, featuring music by the composer himself and some of his most cherished peers.
